Custom Paint

Update

Let us all bow our heads for this sled that went to snowmobile heaven while up in the MI Upper Peninsula.

But here is the how it came to be!

This is my brothers sled.  Unfortunately "the sled" found a stump under some fresh powder.  OOPS.  Oh well, it's time to get the paint gun out :)

This is a pretty clean sled that we picked up at Hayday's in 2004.  Extra 12, 600 triple.

We have now installed USI ski's on it..

Now for the "fun" and some custom paint:)

All paint used is RM Diamont and Carizzma.

For more information on Carizzma.

First step is to remove all decals which I used a heat gun to do, and then strip the paint.  I used a fairly non-aggressive paint stripper.  This may damage many hoods so please test in a non-conspicuous spot before using.  This hood had been previously painted.

On the drivers side you can see where the damage had occurred.  The hood did crack, but the paint also peeled off due to a poor non flexible primer having been used.

Here is the repair area finished and ready for primer.  I used a flexible filler from Dominion Sure Seal.  This stuff sands very nice, remains flexible, and has fantastic adhesion.  Here is a link.

Here is the hood primed.  Do yourself a favor and flex your primer and clear.

This picture shows the silver base coat which is put down first.  All base coats are activated for better adhesion and flexibility.

Next I put a white pearl on the front nose, to give it a fading appearance.

Then came some LARGE gold flake that I applied to the hood inlets.

I then masked off a stripe that is to remain silver.

RM Carrizzma Blue Candy is now applied.  This is some FUN paint to work with:)  I have found a 1 part candy to 4 parts BC00 clear works the best for me.

I then masked around the tips of the silver stripe and sprayed a mist coat of RM Ocean extreme.  This is a color changing paint.  It looks red/magenta/blue/green depending on the viewing angle.

I then added another stripe which silver was faded and then Candy Apple Red/Blue mixture of Carizzma was applied.

We decided to paint the "scoop" area of the side panels with Extreme.  I think this really livened things up.

Here is a picture from Maplewood State Park in MN on New Years Day 2006.

RM DC5100 Clear was used with a Sata Mini Jet 4 spray gun.  I cannot brag these two products up enough.
