Scorpion Hood Restoration

Here we will go through my restoration process of the fiberglass hood of the Scorpion.

There was no major damage, however it was plenty rough.  The gel-coat had cracked, the heat had disintegrated the fiberglass, the bottom where it mounts was worn severely, and there was cracks around the engine opening.

Here is a step by step of the repair procedures that were performed to the hood.

Here is a close-up of the cracked gel-coat.

In these pictures the color has more of a gold hue.  That is discoloration of the clear gel-coat that has aged.  We buffed up an area and it was silver.  The flake is .035 square.  That is huge flake.

Here is the area that I cut out because the fiberglass had disintegrated from the heat of the muffler.

You can see the buffed area above the cut out that shows the original silver color.

Here is the top of the cowl area showing some cracks and the gel-coat removed.

Here is a picture of the hood with all gel-coating removed.
