Scorpion Mach 1 Tunnel Restoration

The tunnel on this sled had seen some abuse, like most sleds of this vintage.  It had some dents, bogey mounting points were pushed up.  Fortunately there was no rust through, just surface rust.  Also the motor flexing had cracked the tunnel by the mounting bolts.

The chassis prior to restoration.  Not very pretty:)

The chassis was sandblasted, cracks and tears welded.   Dents were metal finished when possible to minimize the use of filler, filler was used as necessary.

Here is one of the repairs by one of the bogey mounts.

Primed Tunnel

I used a high quality epoxy from Dupont's Industrial division called 25P in black.

This is very tough stuff and has a lot of fill to cover up the sandblasting profile.

Bottom of the tunnel with sprayed in bed liner to keep it from getting chipped up on the bottom side.

Tunnel with Imron 333 Black.  Has a truer black and glossier appearance than original, but will be tons more durable.  The primer that I used has about the same gloss as original and does not need to be painted.

The tunnel ready for reassembly.

Just a little prettier than at the start:)
